All about me

So who am I…

I’m an art director with over 17 years experience in the design industry, specialising in digital to craft user-centred experiences that are pixel perfect.

I love to work in collaborative environments and believe that you can only get happy clients and consumers by providing well-rounded solutions with UX at their heart.

Working with brands to develop strategic relationships and intelligent solutions, from concept to delivery, I have had the opportunity to work in a variety of scenarios, and whether client side, agency, or freelance, the experiences gained have helped me develop a strong set of hands on skills to draw upon.

Clients and well known brands I’ve worked for include Sony, Sony Europe, Sony Mobile, Yamaha Europe, L’Oreal, Kingfisher, MTV, BBC, IBM, IMG, ManUtd, Ford.

And what do people think of me…

“I’ve worked with James as his client for several years and then briefly as his colleague. Others will justifiably praise his creativity, digital fluency and design knowledge. But for me, James stands out from other senior creatives in two valuable ways. His discipline and structured working process makes him both extremely reliable from a client or project management perspective, and a great coach and leader for other designers. Secondly, he understands and articulates business problems and conceptual solutions with the kind of rational ease you’d expect from a strategy lead.

A truly professional creative with quiet charm, a robust intellect, and an uncanny ability to keep his cool while others are losing theirs

Sophie-Kim Chapman, Head of Sonymobile.com at Sony Mobile

“James is one of the best interactive art directors I have been working with. He is not only an innovative thinker and a great designer, he also understands the need of the Business and has a talent for creating very robust design systems.”

Laurent Mauvais, Creative Director at Sony Mobile

“An excellent digital creative who brings great passion to his work. He’s collaborative, hard working and always delivers quality work. A thoroughly decent guy, a nice person to work with, reliable and great with clients and a valuable member to any team.”

Evan Michaels, Executive Creative Director at GPJ

“I have worked with James for nearly 3 years. He has a brilliant approach to not only digital design but also to projects as a whole. From concept, to creation, he has expansive knowledge to draw upon that is a benefit to the growth and success of a project, and has a great rapport with the studio, that keeps projects on track and the team inspired.

Always willing to lend a hand, with a proactive attitude and a great eye for detail, James would be an asset to any team and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending him.”

Melissa Bennett, Senior Copywriter at We Love Digital

“Jay continually impressed me during my time working with him at We Love… He is able to produce brilliant, thoroughly thought out design which is always on brand, and importantly – hitting client business objectives. His high level of digital understanding, user interaction & technical limitations made handovers to the development department a breeze.

To top it off, he’s also a great guy, with a very level-headed attitude and often was the voice of reason, always able to deliver sound advise not just to his department, but company wide. Jay would be an valued asset to any team, and I very much hope I get the pleasure and opportunity to work along side him again in the future.”

Joe Angus, Previously Lead Developer at We Love Digital
